Chronology of Building Changes

1879

First CSPS Hall is established at Western and Michigan Avenues. This first hall is a re-located wooden schoolhouse.

May 25, 1886

First CSPS building burns down, cause of fire unknown.

March 20, 1887

Work began on the CSPS building. William J. Gronewold is general contractor and Emil W. Ulrici is architect.

September 1, 1887 

Building was completed.

1917

CSPS Hall is renovated, Raymond Pavlecka, architect. The entrance to the second floor was moved to the center of the building and a third floor was added to provide additional meeting space. The second floor was also remodeled to relocate the stage to the north end. The remodeling cost $18,000.

1975

CSPS Hall is threatened by demolition. Group organizes to plan preservation.

February 17, 1977

CSPS Hall is placed on the National Register of Historic Sites

1980

CSPS Hall is remodeled, including first floor upgrade and second floor restrooms.

1981

Hall floor refinished, parking lot repaved and landscaping

1998

Elevator installed

2000

First floor remodeling

2004

Kitchen improvements and main hall remodel
